On Wednesdays We Journal – New Journaling Series

Babes, I LOVE to journal, and want to try a new journaling series with you. Journaling has truly changed my life, and I want to share that magic. If you’ve never journaled before, that’s fine! Your entries don’t have to start with “dear diary” – fret not. The only thing my entries consistently start with is the date. Try starting with what’s on your heart that day. If you’ve attempted journaling before but felt ~weird~ about it, try to unpack that on the pages. What is it that makes you feel weird? Why do you feel weird?

One important thing to remember is – and I cannot stress this enough – DON’T OVERTHINK IT. Journaling is so simple – just write what you’re feeling/thinking down on the page. Don’t worry about it being perfect or how many pages you’ve written. This is strictly for you. It’s not for anyone to review and redline to hell in tracked changes. 🙂

Another thing to remember is that there is no page or time limit. Sometimes I write 10 pages, sometimes I write one paragraph. Sometimes I can blissfully write for hours, other times I simply take 10 minutes before bed to write a few sentences. The point is to just write with no limitations.

Now let’s talk supplies. Sure, you could go get a fancy notebook and pen but my advice is to use what you have and start where you are. When I first started journaling, I used those cheap spiral notebooks and a pencil. After a while, I couldn’t stand the way the pencil smeared so I switched to a ballpoint pen. I can’t remember how it happened but after a while, even the ballpoint pen started smearing on me so I eventually switched to gel ink – Pilot G2 to be exact. Eventually I decided I didn’t like spiral notebooks so I upgraded that too. I still remember the day I got my first Moleskine XL Soft Cover notebook – DROOL.

But just like anything else, I gradually made upgrades as I figured out what I liked. I actually use various brands of notebooks now, not just Moleskine. Start where you are with what you have.

No notebook? No problem. I have journaled on and off in the Day One app on my phone for YEARS. I LOVE that app and love the fact that I can easily journal on the go, insert photos, music I’m currently listening to, date/time/location (if you want) etc. Day One is a paid app but I’ve also used the Notes app that comes standard on every iPhone. I’ve even done a form of video journaling where, in an effort to get more comfortable on camera, I just turned the camera on and started talking. Two birds, one stone.

So when you’re ready, grab your beverage and journaling medium of choice, and hit play on the YouTube video above so we can journal together. Take as much or as little time as you need and just let the words flow. If all else fails and you can’t think of anything to write, just write about one thing you are grateful for and why.

I’m thinking about making this a regular series to help with accountability so I’ll see you back here and on my YouTube channel next Wednesday with some more journaling magic.
