On Wednesdays We Journal // 12 – Emotional Range of the Ocean

This has been…quite an emotional week, I won’t even lie.

Weekend:

All weekend I rested, watched some fun movies/shows etc. and felt great. Black Widow, The Falcon & The Winter Soldier (excellent), The Suicide Squad, and started Loki. Also started reading A Game of Thrones. Fun!

Monday

I felt great. Did the Migos peloton ride with Alex Toussaint (INCREDIBLE – NOT TO BE MISSED) and had an overall fantastic day.

Tuesday

Almost immediately I was feeling very off. The emotional weight of the global chaos came in HOT and I was feeling it all day. Skipped workout altogether. I had trouble falling asleep and when I woke up this morning, I wasn’t feeling any better.

Wednesday (today)

I skipped my workout (again) and got lost in Marvel TikTok (specifically: Sebastian Stan TikTok) for longer than I’d like to admit. But the bromance between Sebastian, Chris, and Anthony is too much!! I love it. Anyway, I spiraled and actually regret nothing.

Mid morning I decided to finally get up, get some caffeine in my system, run my errands, go on a walk, do some Pilates with Kendall (loved it!), shower, and get myself together. I ate lunch and kept going with renewed energy. Later this evening I’ll be rewatching The Nap Ministry’s latest IGTV “Sermon on liberation and care. Rest is a spiritual practice.” The work/human experience continues.

All of the things I did this morning to get myself out of a funk were from my “Small Things” list. This is why it’s important to know thyself and know what you can fall back on when in a funk. Caffeine, exercise, and hobbies – my trifecta. What’s yours?

Of course the world is not going to be saved because you did a few things from your trifecta list. However, the way in which you show up in the world will be improved. This is where I’m going to say again – please go watch The Nap Bishop’s latest IGTV. Sit with that message. When you’re ready, visit the additional resources she shares. So much information and understanding to be had from her page. I am deeply grateful to her.

As always, feel free to take this time to brain dump. There’s a lot of shit going on in the world and if you’ve got the emotional range of a teaspoon the ocean, it can feel overwhelming. Take some time to reconcile with how you’re feeling. Don’t rush it.
